Nuclear Energy in the US

Nuclear energy is considered an alternative energy source since it produces electricity without producing any carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases in the process. 19% of the electricity produced in the United States comes from nuclear energy, however most of the nuclear power in use has not been updated or expanded upon in 30 years. Recently, the Obama administration has been working towards increasing nuclear power plants through loan guarantees to help finance the construction of new reactors.
