Nuclear energy is considered an alternative energy source since it produces electricity without producing any carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases in the process. 19% of the electricity produced in the United States comes from nuclear energy, however most of the nuclear power in use has not been updated or expanded upon in 30 years.
